Book Unhaul Questions | getting rid of books | blogmas day 18

Many book lovers I know cling on to books like a dragon clings on to gold coins. And dragons love gold coins.

BooksAndLala on YouTube started off a Book Unhaul Challenge, but I thought I would continue on with the idea but asking a few more questions. I am going to try and get rid of a whole host of books this month, so these questions will be helpful to both me and (hopefully) you!

The Reading Habits Tag

So the lovely Kira at @fieittyreads tagged me to do the Reading Habits Tag (thank you!)! I can’t add any photos (I’m on a public computer at the hotel I’m staying at) but I’ll do it anyway!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

No, not really, as I have a wall behind my bed and it isn’t very comfortable. It’s gotten better since I put a pillow permanently next to my mum’s giant (and I mean giant, it’s about as big as a 10 year old child) panda, but other than that I read on the armchair, mostly.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Bookmark! I’m reading The Fellowship of the Ring at the moment, and when my dad went to New Zealand at the beginning of the year, he brought me back a really awesome leather LOTR bookmark, so I’m using that, but I have magnetic ones, paper ones, free ones… I love bookmarks, and collect them. And totally do not go bookmark online window shopping…

Can you stop reading or do you stop after a chapter / a certain amount of pages?

I have to finish the sentence and/or paragraph I’m reading, but other than that, yes. I tend to read to the end of a section or chapter, though, if someone’s not nagging me.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

No, not really. I might get a drink, such as if I’m reading at college, but I don’t think, “Oh, I’m going to read today. Must get a drink!”

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

I can do, and it’s great when I don’t want to be disturbed. Not TV as much, unless it’s a) a show I don’t like, or b) adverts, or c) I’ve already watched it. It’s difficult with music at the moment though because I have pretty much one artist on my iPod (the last one went through the wash, and I haven’t had the chance to upload all of my CDs yet) and I’m so attached to his songs I can’t focus!

One book at a time or several at once?

I used to read 5, 6 at a time, but now I prefer to have one I’m continuously reading. On my GoodReads, I have 4, but I haven’t read once since March, one since June and one I didn’t want to bring on holiday with me.

Reading at home or everywhere?

Anywhere and everywhere. Bus, cafe, on the pavement (make sure you look up, because other people probably won’t), parks…

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

In my head. Drives me nuts when I hear people read aloud.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Nope! I couldn’t bare it. Sometimes my eyes inadvertently skip to the last line of the opposite page, but that’s it!

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I used to break it all the time… but now I try to keep them like new. Unless the spine’s are already broken in which case, sorry my babies but you ain’t gonna get any better.

Do you write in your books?

No, not at all! I am in Argonautica but that’s because I need it for my EPQ. And that’s in pencil. And underlining. But that’s it. A book I bought yesterday has highlighting in it, but it’s done really well so looks like it’s printed.

I am tagging…
