Books I Want to Read This Summer!

It really does feel like summer is checking in here in the UK! It has been hot, and it’s got me thinking, of course, about what I want to read this summer. Let’s take a look at my TBR…

I am planning on doing a “summer of series” this year, which I’ll talk about later on, but I’m only sketching that out to be the six week summer holiday (as I’m a teacher!), so all of these books are the standalones I want to dive into. This TBR is therefore pretty short, because I have many other books to read…

Why You Should Shop In Indie Bookshops

It’s so easy nowadays to simply click “purchase” on an Amazon basket and have a book delivered straight to your door the next day. Minimum effort, zero fuss, rarely any problems. Book prices on Amazon are often lower than in stores, so why would you go anywhere else?

There are plenty of reasons to shop at independent bookshops rather than corporations such as Amazon. Ultimately, our high street shops keep us going. Could you imagine walking to your local village, town, or city, and every single shop being bordered up?

Unboxing | Books That Matter: Choose Love | May 2021

I am still loving this gorgeous, feminist book box. I have been buying this book box for a few months now, and I am continuously enjoying them.

Books That Matter sometimes teams up with other charities and companies, and this month they have partnered with Choose Love, a charity that supports refugees from around the world. In their store, you can buy merchandise as well as purchasing things like nappies, portable phone chargers, emergency blankets, and tents which go straight to the people who need them the most. In the future, I am definitely planning on supporting this charity further.

Five Short Books to Enjoy in Nature | Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and the organisation that created this week, MentalHealth.org.uk, have decided on the theme of nature to raise awareness of looking after our mental health and supporting one another in all aspects of our brains!

Mental Health Awareness Week: the benefits of nature on mental health and wellbeing - Bedford Independent

During the first lockdown, I read about 50 books in the space of a month. They became my saviour during that time; when the world was thrown into turmoil, I turned to books to cope. I devoured title after title, and, as there were many beautiful sunny days in 2020, I also enjoyed reading outside.

Unboxing | Books By Nature April 2021 | Hidden in the Shadows

If you read my blog post from February, you will know I was blown away by this new book box, and I was so excited to get the next box! This box is bi-monthly, meaning every other month in this context, so we’re about to open the next release.

This box was made in collaboration with the author, and you can follow Books By Nature on their Instagram here! I love boxes that are made in collaboration, because they feel so personally. The author also included some extra bits in the box, which made me feel pretty spoilt!

Unboxing | Books That Matter April 2021 | Dare to be Powerful

I’m so excited to be sharing with you one of my favourite Books That Matter boxes so far! I’d like to apologise as I completely forgot to post my March unboxing – so check out my Instagram to see a full unboxing on there.

This box was a double-book unboxing and that made me super excited, especially when I saw that one was a Penguin Modern Classics edition that I don’t own! I am still collecting these books, and I think they make fantastic gifts, and great editions to any book box.

What is Project 10, and should I do it?

One of my “resolutions” every year since about 2016 has been “buy less books”. And I say “resolutions” in quotation marks because I almost never adhere to it.

I do only occasionally go out of my way to buy books – such as in the case of new releases, or if I’m looking for something in particular. Normally, I’m just browsing and think, “Ooh, may as well.”

With that in mind, this year I thought I would tackle it differently, and allowed myself 3 purchases a month. Well, that backfired very quickly and now I have bought over 20 in the first three months the year!

When I saw “Project 10” floating around on Instagram, I thought it might be fun to try. But what actually is it?
